I have a remote display that appears to have stopped receiving engine data from two CAN bus circuits. I was wondering if there is any way to test for the presence of a signal with a more basic multimeter like a Fluke 87V.

Look for an AC voltage?

Yes, you can look for a voltage. DC actually. You should see something between 0 and 5V meaning it is not just statically sitting at 0V or 5V like it might if comm was dead.
