What is the process for "Vacuum Deposit" Cadmium Plating and is there a benefit to this process over the other? There seem to be a limited number of facilities that do this.

The most obvious advantage is compete freedom from hydrogen embrittlement.Process involves putting the part in a vacuum chamber and volatilizing the cadmium. I seem to recall that the cad is heated somewhat to help it volatilize.

swall gave you the product benefit. The process benefit is reduced environmental problems. The vacuum process is fully contained, so no wastewater contamination, hazardous emissions, etc.

Two specifications for the process are AMS 2426, and AMS-C-8837, the word-for-word copy of Mil-C-8847, which is still available on ASSIST.
