We have some parts that we have CRN approval on for Brass that is ASTM B283. Every supplier that we talk to says that they only supply ASTM B21 material. The supplier that we were getting it from, said that they were selling us material to B21, but the chemical and physical certs that they supplied said ASTM B21/B283, but they informed us that they will no longer be saying that. Now we're kind of high and dry and can't find a supplier for Brass C46400 to ASTM B283. Are we missing something here? Any help would be appreciated.

From the descriptions of the two standards under ASTM website, B21 allows you to specify temper/heat treatment (which will affect mechanical properties) while B283 is for die forgings. B21 is for brasses only, while B283 covers copper alloys (incl. brass but also some bronzes amongst other things).

Suggestion would be to see what mechanical properties (hardness/tensile strength) you require of your ASTM B283 C46400 components, and see if there is a heat treatment under B21 which will allow you to achieve the same properties.
