How do I have a bulk (grease, adheasive, etc) item go to the bill of materials in an assembly. I do not what to make a "dumby" part to do this.

Using a dummy or non-solid part is the best way to do this. This is the "standard" method for many other CAD programs also. The alternative is to manually modify the BOM, but if you do that, when you update the BOM, you will lose your manual edits. SE has a useful feature of being able to extract a BOM directly from the model (as opposed to just within the draft mode), if you don't use dummy parts in the model, this feature will not list your "bulk" consumables.

I used the suggestion, but two I need to know exactly how. I put a non-graphic part into my assy, by holding down the shift key but should it be not positioned and I get an asterisk by the item number AND the qty is 1 I need AR. Any suggestions?

You can use the parts reference planes to set mates ... although you dont have to mate the part, it is usually better practice to do so.

The asterisk simply means that a balloon is not attached to the part in any view ... the BOM doesn't care ... it is just a "heads up" notice for the user. You could actually use the asterisk as a quick indicator of which items are consumables.

As for the QTY/AR issue, some people create a custom property with the QTY unit (in the part) & add an extra UNITS column into the BOM.

Other places I've worked for only add the bulk consumables into their MRP/ERP system ... not the part/assy.

well I talked to STI and I got the asterisk off the BOM you right click on the BOM and go to properties then uncheck the mark un-balloon items, you can also copy and paste the balloon. Thank you for your help.

Hi

In the File Properties of the part file, under Custom Tab;

1. Type: SE_ASSEMBLY_QUANTITY_OVERRIDE in the Name box.
2. Select Number from the list in the Type box.
3. Type: 1 in the Value box.
4. Click the the Add button.

5. Type: SE_ASSEMBLY_QUANTITY_STRING in the Name box.
6. Select Text from the list in the Type box.
7. Type AR in the Value box.
8. Click the Add button.

AR should appear in the Quantity column of the Parts List.

You should search for Non-graphic part in SE Help for more information.

I put a non-graphic part into my assy, by holding down the CTRL key. The part is GROUNDED.
