Bulk Carrier Hull Design Guide

Does anyone have or know where to get a downloadable ship building design guide or general information spec's? We are looking for the typical spacing of the Web Frame on Bulk Carriers. We had an old ship building textbook in the office but are unable to locate it.

Try looking at vessel drawings and Class Rules. These are published by the different classification societies such as DNV, Lloyds etc.

The rules will typically specify certain things in relation to the hull which must be met in order to hold the class, but it may not have what you want.

If you have a particular vessel in mind, contact the owner.

That said, vessel structural design is not something to be covered by a design guide. You need a naval architect.

The design ship is a handymax bulk carrier, but the issue is that it is the desire of the owner to have it be able to unload on various types of bulk carriers. In addition the manufacturer is a Chinese company! We are located in Tampa, Florida and my brother works at the Port and a coworker was able to look at a ship last week but didn't get that bit of info. I located a ABS "Rules for Building and Classing" which reinforced our initial thought that the stiffeners are spaced at 4'-5' o.c. and there are longitudinal reinforcement as well spanning the stiffener spacing.

I thought maybe someone may have or know of a typical guidelines for the framing of Bulk Carrier's to get a general feeling to start thinking from.
