Buckling Analysis (Local)

I want to model pure bending on the flat plate by using MPC with a moment applied to the reference node which is connected to the end of the flat plate. After successfully modelling this, I will use this method to model pure bending of an I section. Further I plan to use this method in a inelastic buckling (non-linear) analysis for my thesis at USYD.

I have modelled a 100x300x5 flat plate use shell elements. Looking at the abaqus manual, a link MPC seems most suitable, however I was not able to get it to work. Error message, "2 nodes have inactive dof on which boundary conditions are specified...". I think this is because of the dof limit of a shell element to support rotations.

How should approach this problem? If there are is any further information is required please message me. I have attached the files here.

Any help will be much appreciated, and may be acknowledged in my final thesis paper.

Thanks

plates should support rotations. and it complained about "two nodes" ... shame it won't tell which !?

bending buckling (inplane or out-of-plane) of a flat plate is much more complex than for an I beam.

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?
