Hi everybody,

i manufacture sluice gate valves from ss316L castings and i need to manufacture the same product for seawater.

i have the models and the strength to manufacture them from beonze castinf but i don't know which alloy is the best.

This is one of the few cases where you can get info from both 'copper development' and 'nickle instirute'.
If you want to stay with a Cu based material then the NiAlBronze such as C95800 is usually a top choice. If you want to use more Ni (not usually a cost effective option) then ASTM A494 M-35-1 or M-30C are cast Monels used in this service.

Valve design and contruction is important. You need to watch galvanic interactions and make sure that your most important componants are the most noble. In the pump business the cases are often made from a slightly less corrosion resistant alloy than the impellers. This is so that when there is corrosion it is on the less critical parts.

Corrosion, every where, all the time.
Manage it or it will manage you.
