I understand most DOT's specify placing the positive moment regions first followed by negative moment regions (3-7 days later) to avoid cracking in the negative moment regions. I have witnessed a deck being placed continuously with only the stipulation that a specific rate of placement be maintained. If I remember correctly the rate of placement was to ensure the concrete in the negative moment remain plastic while the last portion of the positive moment is placed. Is this correct???

Also, I forget why the overhang brackets could not be welded in the negative moment areas, can someone please explain.

If anyone could elaborate on either subject it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

IN NY, the DOT allows a single continuous placement if the volume is less than 360 cy.

Regarding the brackets: Most, if not all, DOT's don't allow welding to a tension flange.
