I am working on a project where the owner and contractor want to put a brick veneer on an existing metal building. The existing building is clad with 26 gauge reverse applied PBU panels over metal girts. The girt spacing is to large to allow direct attachment of the proposed brick ties to the girts and also satisfy the area/spacing requirements for brick ties. My hesitation is that I cannot provide a pullout capacity for screws attached to 26 gauge panels. I remember in the past, a required tie/attachment capacity of 100#'s per tie, but cannot find it now. I want the contractor to use a heavier gauge vertical hat/furring channel system to attach the brick ties. Any input would be greatly appreciate.
