I was wondering if any one could tell me what the advantages and disadvantages are between a boss fitting or thredolet, I am redesigning a 1" return line that requires a 1/4" threaded connection for an instrument and I saw that I could either use a threaded boss fitting or thredolet. I just want to know if there is an advantage to one or the other, thanks.

One disadvantage of olets that pops in my mind immediately is that they require a lot of weld metal, and may therefore warp your pipe due to high het input. Unless one takes a lot of cooling between each pass, or has a reasonably small pipe, olets cam be a time consuming weld and therefore expensive.
With a one inch run you might not run into problems though, using an olet.

Why not use 1x1/2 red tee, and a B16.11 1/4" half coupling?

XL83NL thanks for the suggestion that would definitely work.
