I am working on an assembly, this assy has 43 components in it. When I drop this on a sheet and insert a SW BOM, one of the components that is listed in the feature mgr tree as item 29 is displayed in the SW BOM as item 6. I am using SW 2008 sp4.0.

Previous versions of SW allowed you to rearrange the BOM items from within the BOM. For some reason I cannot figure how to "shuffle" the BOM to match the way the components are listed in the feature mgr tree.

The reason I would like to do this is item 29 is a screw and I would like to keep the "major" components at the begginning of the BOM and the sundrie items at the end.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Lon

smcadman,
Which version of SW are you using? I don't have that dropdown box and I'm using 2008 SP4.0

If you want the assembly ordered based on the feature manager tree, then select the BOM (at the edge/corner) and select the box for "Follow assembly order".

That will put them in line.

I also checked for settings that could affect it and couldn't find one. It doesn't look like you are using a custom scheme or anything (don't think that would disable anything but just thinking out loud).

If you look at Reily's screeny, you will see why I prefer to re-number them in numerical order rather than "Follow assembly order". Instead of hunting for item # 42 for example, it would be faster to find a particular item if the balloons were in order either clockwise or from top of sheet to bottom.

But everybody has there preferences and what makes sense to some doesn't make sense to others.

Yeah, that would be great to be able to number in a clockwise or some order. Solidworks just drags so damn much I'm outta time to make it pretty. Sadly there's a good shot the guys in the shop won't even open up the assembly drawing. Realistically they'll probably just come ask me rather than using the information provided. I would really like to be able to have more control over the BOM. The dragging items doesn't seem to work real well, if I get just a little off track it quits dragging. Of course the old arrow button sucked too. Guess I'm just whinning out loud. Solidworks just doesn't seem to work real well for mold work. It's great for machines (assemblies, etc.). The drop down box looks great, I just can't find it on mine.
