Boise Cascade - Ijoist - Question

Hello,

I have the BCI iJoists supporting a second floor - there is going the be just sheetrock below the ijoists. My question is - Is bridging needed for iJoists - is it code satisfactory if there is no bridging for ijoist. If bridging is needed - what type of bridging is recommmended - the ijoist are a little greater that 10 ft. Also, 2 joists have darkened due to being weather exposed - no visible damage though - is it safe?

Those are questions best sent to the designer of the joists. All i-joist systems (whether BCI or Weyerhauser or others) should be designed by a supplier. They would be the only ones to comment on the capabilities of their system.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

it's my understanding that generally speaking they do not need bridging
generally, as I recall, their code reports will indicate such.
suggest get their report and scan through it.... also, sales rep can prob point you to chapter and verse.

I think I would be a little more concerned about needing web stiffeners and not so much bridging. If you have enough load though, and your single sole plate isn't able to support a stud if it lands off center from an i-joist then you certainly would need bridging and hangers for the bridging.
