Boiler Temperature Measurement

Hello,
I am looking into options for measuring the temperature of the gas stream at the outlet of the boiler radiant section of our plant. We usually use thermocouples, but my concern is that with the carry over of ash etc. in that area we soon will have a build up of insulating materials covering the t/c well, resulting in an inaccurate reading. Has anyone had success with some of the options out there such as optical pyrometers etc?

forget using a pyrometer, they are too broadband.

the measurement problems are many, ranging from checking the gas temperature independently (to fix the gas emissivity) to keeping ash out of the optical system and cooling. you usually have to use dual beam systems.

ash build up on thermocouples is a minor issue.

short of spending some realy serious bucks either for IR or T/C or both, about all you'll get is a representative indication of the thermal environment.
