beam end release

Can ABAQUS model a partial end release for beam elements?
Or spring elements have to be used in conjunction with MPCs?

Abaqus has the *RELEASE keyword which can release a rotational degree of freedom or a combination of rotational degrees of freedom at one or both ends of a beam element.

There doesn't appear to be an option to release translational degrees of freedom.

I know of the *release option. But this option completely release the chosen force component.

I would like insted to retain a certain percentage of stiffnes...

For "partial release" or "partial stiffness" of the beam end you would have to use a rotational spring with finite stiffness.

I am trying to put a spring in my model, which consists of a pinned-end beam. I need the spring in one pinned end to diminish the deflection of the beam, which undergoes large displacements.
They say in doc that, for large displ it's better to use JointC, but this one requires 2 nodes.

How can I define the spring for my model?

Check the help/user's manual (Vol. II Section 17.), as in here it tells you everything you need to know about your torsional springs in a very ABAQUS-straightforward-and-easy-to-understand way. If only all FE help manuals were the same...
