bar coding system 2

Can anyone recomend a bar coding system to track and record information during assembly process. We are looking for somthing that can be used in a single department. We are not at the point were we want to use it for inventory.

First a question.

What are you limitations?

By this I mean what is the size of the area where the bar code will be placed.

What amount of information do you require on the barcode.

Who will be using the information.

Will you have future requirements.

Will it be used by the end customer.

Without knowing these answers I'd say go for a Data Matrix system but it won't be the cheapest solution.

You can start with Symbol Technologies or Markem. Without much more info it's hard to be specific.
