I am looking for a "basic" explanation of B-splines that will allow me to:
1) understand their representation ("anchors" and "knots")
2) further manipulate them (generating X-Y pairs from spline characterization).

My web searches have yielded two types of sites: the equivalent of "fun with splines", and rather esoteric discussions where too much prior knowledge is assumed of the mathematician reader.

Text, software or cyber references are welcomed. Also, any suggestions for better forums at which I might post this...

"B" in B-spline means "Bezier". Search for "Bezier"; That's the name of the gentleman - sorry, monsieur - who invented them. I am sure that you'll find some interesting results. Can you then share it with us?
