B 16.9 - 6" x 6" x 2" Reduced Outlet Tee

Reduced outlet Tee 6" x 6" x 2" is not listed in B 16.9 Stds, does that mean that the tee is not a B16.9 tee? if it is, please explain.

Hello,

Well, it means that the fitting that you want is not standardized by ANSI B16.9. Bottom line is that you will not be able to buy such a fitting so you will have to use a Tee and a reducer (or fabricate the branch connection by welding - See B31.3 Appendix H).

Weel, I know you can by a 6 in x 2 in reducing tee, check the below link for example, but I am not sure if this tee could be specified as B16.9 Tee.

If you insist for some reason on having a tee then use an extruded tee.

Agree with others that the best solution might be a std. tee with a reducer on the branch. I say best because you can usually get stock materials unless there is something unusual about the material.

I guess what I was trying to say is that if it is not "listed" by B16.9, then it is not a "Standard Component". That being the case it does not comply with the B31 Pressure Piping Codes. If you use a component that is "not listed" then you are responsible to do a "little" extra work. See B31.3, See B31.3 paragraphs 315.3 and 318.1.2 AND especially see paragraph 304.7.2 )pressure design)to see how much is "a little" extra work.

There is a reason why we have Codes and Standards. AND, when the Code (e.g., B31.3) is mandated by a local (municipal, State, Province) building Code, then it has the force of law.

Thank you guys for taking the time to respond to my question. The original question was[/color] Is a 6" x 6" x 2" reduced outlet tee a B16.9 tee? I gathered that the answer is no.
I have have been using a weldolet all alone, I was just wondering. I also have been using weld on branch connection (hot tap) for many years to tap into gas lines while in service.
