I would like know what is the interpretation for tensile test piece with 60 mm min of length of reduction section if my weld metal present only 20 mm of widest face due my thickness is small (9 mm)?
When you prepare the tensile specimen, put the weld metal at the center of the reduced section. The required length of reduced section is not only the width of weld metal alone, but plus HAZ and base metal. Hope this answer your question.

The question is if I have a weld joint with weld metal around 20 mm plus 0.5" of HAZ and BM I do not have 60 mm of length of reduction section. What the interpretatio for this case?
You are fine with 20mm of weld in the center and the balance of your reduced section made up of base metal and HAZ. The big thing is to make note of and report where the failure occurred, for instance ductile in base metal or ductile in weld metal. The failure is going to occur in the weakest section which is what you really want to determine. As long as you meet the base metal minimum you should be good.
I asked because in the Brazil some welding inspector reproves the test and the joints if the weld presented length of reduction section less than 60 mm. The interpretation is reprove the sample and prepare a new joint, but I don’t found in the AWS D1.1 a note that I can use in this case when I have a joint with the widest weld metal is less than 48 mm. Are they correct?
