Dear Professionals!
I wud like to know what is represented by 'D' in
ASTM D 86 standard, in fact in all ASTM standards the number given is pre-fixed by a alphabet.
can any body throw me light on this??

I think the D belongs to the ASTM technical (D-02) committee handling -among others- subjects related to petroleum and its derivatives.
