hi we have a job need G40.21 38WT material for a storage tank. our supplier suggested to us using G40.21 50WT material. Is this ok? tank design MDMT is -45 deg C. what is the difference between these two material? on MTR it specified ASTM A572-18 GR 50. Thanks,

No substitute for the actual specifications, but it's a start...

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

The information at the link is a summary. You should evaluate the actual ASTM specifications in detail before you approve a substitution.

If you have questions, try asking them to the engineer who wrote (or at least approved) the material specification for your particular project.

that's a nice link. thanks for all the help here. this topic has been come up millions of times. try to understand it more myself. totally agree with jdonville's comment. will send this over to engineer and ask for approval. thanks again.

Yes, be glad to. You, or someone in your organization (YOSIYO), needs to read the relevant material specifications. YOSIYO needs determine if the materail offered by the supplier is indeed equivalent to the desired material.

YOSIYO needs to decide if the CSA material is equivalent to the ASTM material noted on the MTR. YOSIYO needs to determine if the CSA materail is noted on the MTR as well.

YOSIYO needs to read the relevant project documents to determine if any substitution of materials is permitted. YOSIYO most likely needs to contact the buyer or eventual owner to determine if such substitutions are acceptable.

Then you, or someone in your organizatipon, will know what to do.

It's a slog, but it's the only real way.

Regards,

Mike
