ASTM A325 specs states that the minimum tensile strength be 120 ksi for bolts from 1/2" to 1" and 105 ksi for diameters 1 1/8" thru
1 1/2"
AISC 360-05 states the nominal tensile stress for A325 bolts as 90 ksi, presumably from 0.75 Fu.

It states this exclusive of bolt size.

Why do the larger diameter bolts not have a lower nominal tensile stress = 0.75Fu or 0.75*105ksi = 79 ksi in order to correspong to the ASTM spec?

Look at the fourth paragraph in the AISC 360 commentary in your 13th edition manual (page 16.1-344).

Hmmm...pretty straight forward.
I guess I should have read the commentary before I wasted time posting.

Thanks JAE
