Hello ,
I have simple question, as ASTM 270 is not on the ASME Sect II Material list, I suppose that I can't use it in ASME job ,So, which SA material can substitute ASTM 270 sanitary tubing ?.
thanks.

What code book section are you using for your design? For pressure retaining material, ASTM A 270 is not permitted for Section VIII. Do you need 304, 304L, 316 or 316L????Look at SA 249 tubing specification.

Hi metengr,
I'm using section VIII div.1 for design, for grade it doesn't matter 304L or 316 L, But I need sanitary tubing , is important for design application. I see SA249, is not sanitary,
Thanks.

Are you using this material within the pressure vessel itself or as tubing to convey fluids?

we Are you using this material within the pressure vessel itself, as nozzle connection with try clamp , or some time as tubing line to convey fluids?
Thanks.
Laurent.

Install a 316L stainless safe ended nozzle to the vessel and once this is completed attach the ASTM A 270 tube material to the nozzle. This would be outside the scope of ASME Section VIII, Div 1.

For ASME tubing or piping job, I think that ASTM 270 is not listed also in ASME B31.1 even it's outside the scope of ASME Sect VIII div.1
Thanks.
Laurent.

I would rather suspect ASME B31.3 to be used for the piping part (maybe chapter X). Is your piping under B31.1?

Laurent;
You can still use ASTM A 270 material for piping because it is under an ASTM material specification. Read the CODE. However, I doubt this would be a B31.1 power piping application; it could be under ASME B31.9 Building Services Piping. Again, you provide no detail on service conditions or application.

Thanks,
my tubing is for convoying CO2 @ 100 psi to machine utilisation. but I have no more details from my client for this application

Dual certify the material to an acceptable code material like Sa-249. Usually the tubing we order is certified to many different specifications. Call you vendor and ask for a MTR and check if the other material specifications are listed in the code and include a note on your drawing stating dual certification.

Innovation is correct. Either ask the mill / distributor to quote you with sanitary tubing to SA-270 that is also manufactured and certified to SA-249. If that does not work, purchase the tubing in SA-249 regular BA finish, and send the tube to an aftermarket polisher who can clean, polish, and certify the tube to A-270.

The latter should be relatively inexpensive if the former is not available.
