I have made a latch for a bin in assembly but, when I move one part to lift the other it just go straight through it.
When i put mates to it, it will move but stays to it so it wont open any wider can anyone help please.

You need to post the file so we can see what you're talking about.
If I were to guess, I'd say you're not mating things correctly.

Thanks for the reply its a bit difficult to explain so I will try with the help of the picture.
When it is shut close the latch should move up when in contact with bracket, so it slides up the front then drop in the catch part.
Then when twisted it can come apart to 45 degrees, what I want it to do is recognize that a solid body its there.
I hope this explains a bit better than before.

The only way to get the latch to move dynamically is with physical dynamics which you can find under the 'Move' command. You could use a 'Path' mate, but I don't think it will give you the action you're looking for.

When using physical dynamics is it possible to keep the movement when switch off.
Thanks for your help.

No.
If you want to keep the movement, you'll need to use a path mate to do so.
