Dear Forum,
In the ASME Secion IX book, QW-410.37 - "A change from single to multi pass or vice versa" is not included in the list of variables for GTAW for procedure qualification. Does this imply that such a change does not require re-qualification?
Thanks!

ME231 - The paragraph you reference is not listed under GTAW indicating it's not applicable.
QW 410.9 is listed.

thanks weldtek
i did note that myself. but my delimma/question is whether or not it is okay to go the other route - from single pass/side to multi pass/side - your advise?

ME231,
Generally speaking, I would have no problem with making that change without requalification.
Typically, the concern is with regards to increasing heat input which would happen when going from a multi pass weld to a single pass weld. Hence listing it in Sec IX as a 'Supplementary Variable' which is only applicable if impacts are required.

thanks for your advice weldtek
