When qualifiying welding procedures to ASME Sec. IX can materials listed with S No.'s only (Example A572-50 S-1) be grouped with corresponding P No.'s? QW 420.2&3 addresses this issue but seems to me to be unclear. Any assistance will be apprecaiated.

Read the second paragraph of QW-420.2 three or four times.

Ps will qualify other Ps and Ss in the same group. Ss will qualify other Ss but not Ps in the same group.

One thing in addition to DeanC's comments, QW420.2 is a non mandatory appendix. So many a time, unless you are fabricating a stamped vessel, S Number to P Number restirctions by and large depend on the client's interpretation.

Thanks and regards

When Qualification WPS ( Pipe ),Position 1.G , but actual condition qualification procedure only taken partial welding cause " Large Diameter Pipe " and for the sample of mechanical test was taken as per QW-463.1(a),the result mechanical test is acceptable. We would like to know our WPS / PQR still acceptable by ASME code or not, any assistance will be appreciated.

Best Regards

Thanks for your input. I was afraid of what I would find by asking this question. You both have confirmed my feelings on the matter and reinforced my recomendations to management. Now I guess I best get busy with my PQR's. Thanks Again.
