I am hoping to receive some industry experience and guidance regarding to use of exchanger mechanical tube plugs per ASME PCC-2 312-4.2 . We have been experiencing issues installing mechanical tube plugs during our equipment outage, the tube plug did not hold pressure during a water hydrotest. One important detail of these tube plugs is the tube inside diameter and surface preparation of the tube ID. It is possible we just didn’t have the correct size and preparation. As a result, this has led us to question our choice to use a certain mechanical tube plug technology.
Through my initial research, there are two main types of mechanical tube plugs available - Pop-a-plugs and Torq'N seal. If anyone can provide a comparison between the two technologies will be much appreciated.
