On (2) new 36" dia vessels, the fill ports located on the tank heads were constructed of a 2" victaulic groove x 2" male pipe thread. The threaded end was inserted into the tank head and welded with threads exposed. I cannot locate anything in the ASME to prove that this is acceptable.
