Hi, I'm wondering if ASCE 7 (or possibly ASCE 37) provides any guidance on calculating wind loads on a structure without a roof apart from using Chapter 31 (wind tunnel testing). I currently have a project that involves retrofitting an existing post-tensioned concrete tank (digester). The current tank has a floating cover that was removed and is being replaced with a fixed cover. Due to the diameter of the tank, concrete columns were added within the tank to support the new cover. The Contractor submitted formwork calculations for the new concrete columns. Normally I consider the formwork calcs as 'means and methods' and will not do a full review of them but for sh*ts and giggles I decided to take a look. The Contractor's engineer basically assumed the digester walls weren't there and designed the column formwork for normal wind loading. I'm wondering if there is any increase (or decrease) of wind loads due to the walls being there but no cover. Any thoughts?
