Part of our work involves piping analysis and support design of piping systems for mechanical contractors forced by the specifications to hire a P.E.

In many occasions once the drawings have been approved by the A/E, the contrator would support the piping the way they have being doing it in the past without paying attention to any codes, standards or design drawings.

Does any one know who is responsible for ensuring that the work is in accordance with the design drawings and therefore the project specifications?

The owner unless the responsibility has be given to someone else by the owner.

Thank you. This was also my understanding but based on what I see out there, and as long as there are P.E's that would certify anything for a $ this would not work.

In my 20 plus years of practice, I can only recall very few projects, that our designs were fully implemended. The problem here is not what the owner is getting for his money. That is his/her problem. The problem here is what we can do to protect our practice because this a disaster on hold.

Based on what I see out there I am not sure anymore "IF IT IS EASIER TO AVOID A LAWSUIT THAN IT IS TO WIN ONE"
