I've just designed 2 BFW pumps, one running and one on standby, both with auto recirculation valve installed. Besides serving for minimum pump protection, is there a possibility that these ARC valves come with a bypass orifice to keep the spare (idle) pump warm as well? If yes, who are the manufacturers who delivers such ARC valves?

If in Canada, try mentec at sales@mentec.com . Contact person Tom Stringer.

How will you circulate the water through the standby unit?

Going from discharge to suction you risk to backspin the unit. If the pumps are gear driven the gearboxes will not have lubrication while the unit is on standby.

Better to start from cold than to risk damage.

Also: if your operating unit fails and there is debris that gets in the line a continuous heating flow micht carry the debris in pump 2 failing that one at start up.

There are many manufacturers of Automatic bypass valve I will look some.

Best regards.
