apply material type to numerous files

Can anyone help me find a macro or other method to apply a material type to a large number of files. Almost everthing we make is mild steel and I would like to set the material to files imported from another cad system.

From memory someone has written an editor to change property setting on large number of parts. Have a llok at the Inventor Discussion at Autodesk point A or look at the following sites
