In our conversion from 2008 to 2009 we noticed that a number of models that had appearances applied are now having issues. It seems that during the conversion SW has applied appearances to faces and features within the part and there does not seem to be a good way to get rid of them. In some instances they will go away via using the edit appearance function but on many of them they seem to always revert back to a color that isn't defined in the appearance menu. I understand that 2010 seems to have corrected the issue via a new command but as SW is not back wards compatible and we cannot upgrade and still provide data to our suppliers using 2009 its not an option. Is there any quick way to remove all the color assignments in SW 2009 and get back to a model of one color?

Appearance can be applied at both the part and assy level, to faces, surfaces, features, bodies, and parts. You will need to make sure that all are cleared.

At the part level, single-clicking on the part should open a context menu. Selecting the Appearance option will show the appearances applied to the above elements. Select an element and click the Remove Appearance option. Repeat as necessary.

Are you using PhotoWorks or do you have the add-in available? If so, be sure the add-in is turned on and click on the Render manager Tab (just to the right of the Feature Manager tab. Expand the Appearances folder and delete (detatch) all of the appearances. You should have a fresh start that way.

There used to be a Materials color option which I believe was removed in 2009 or 2008 and if some of your models had appearance applied using the Materials callout that is now replaced by real view appearances.

Another thing that you might find annoying is when trying to set color in an Assembly you'll see the Default Plastic get pplied automatically and you have to clear the selection and then select the color you want or you'll get a lot of models getting Default Plastic as material color.

If I recall correctly there were some problems in this conversion because of hte way SW changed the way colors are added. Later SP's fixed the issue in regards to repairing the problem, but still converting of the files was still the same.
