API PLAN 23 Heat Exchanger

We are purchasing a BFW pump, and the pump vendor has proposed TEMA C Cooler for API PLAN 23.
Is this usual for pump sealing systems?
What are the requirements of API 682 for seal coolers? Should they follow any specific code for construction as per a/f api std?
