Colleagues,
I am working on specifying some pumps for an LNG plant, and I am struggling with the mechanical seal and seal plan for the VS4 type API 610 pumps.
All the VS4 pumps will be installed in drums, therefore, as per API 610 this is a closed system requiring a vapor-proof construction. To give an example, one of the pumps is installed in one drain drum with Hot oil at 280°F and operating at 5psig. The drum has a N2 blanketing.
Can you guys provide some guidelines that I should consider when specifying the mechanical seal and seal plan. One major constraint: The Client has indicated that they want to avoid the use of dual pressurized plans (e.g., Plan 53B).
thank you for any help.
