I have a drawing dating back to 1963 for a metallic can that calls for NETIC S3-5 material to be used. I see that NETIC S3-6 is available through MAGNETIC SHIELD CORPORATION but there is no mention of the NETIC S3-5 material.

Since I'm not familiar with either material I'm not sure if the S3-6 material is an acceptable substitite.

There was an engineering change that allowed Mu-Metal to be used but I'm still curious about the NETIC material.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Regards,
Jim

I'd recommend contacting Magnetic Shield Corporation. The NETIC name was probably some trademarked name for Mumetal and I can only guess they are/were the owner. I don't know what would be different between S3-5 and S3-6.

Mumetal has become a generic name for the iron/nickel alloy. The important thing is to anneal it after all machining/deformation processes are complete.

Good luck,
Mike

Mike,

I also suspect that Mu Metal is the same as S3-5. Thank you for the advice.

Regards,
Jim

Call magnetic Shield Corp. Their Mu Metal come in different permeability/saturation level mixes.
