Is there a way to use the Ansys design optimizer if a imported CAD file or Workbench file is used? I am having trouble finding the parameters after importing them into Ansys. Thanks

Hi,
which parameters? If you're speaking about CAD params, then make sure that the prefix in the "import CAD parameters" is not set to "something" like the default "DS". If you blank it, all the CAD params will be imported (at least, this works with UG NX2 and NX4, I don't know with other CADs)

I'm referring to dimension parameters. I'm trying to optimize a complex shape that is easier to model in a CAD package. Then I want to use the ansys design optimizer to adjust the dimensional parameters to find the optimal solution.

Hi,
so my guess was correct.
1- first of all, verify in the "CAD Connection" section of the help IF the plugin you are using does support the CAD param import. For sure it does for UG NX2/4, but for some other CAD it may only recognize the topology, not the params
2- In "Default Geometry Options" of Workbench: "Parameters" must be checked, and the default prefix "DS" must be cleared (unless the params you need are named "DS_..." right in the CAD); you may need also "CAD Associativity" and "Reader mode saves updated CAD file".
3- Ansys Classical doesn't support CAD params in any way.

Regards

Thanks for your help!
