Does Compress have any alternate anchor bolt shear design criteria built in that I need to check in an options screen? Namely, ACI 318? If not, how can I officially request a new feature?
For horizontal vessels on saddles, Compress does a straight forward shear check on the anchor bolts, W*mu = F_shear and then comparing that versus the number, diameter, and strength of the anchor bolts. I get it. I like it. So simple, even a Mechanical Engineer could do it.
ACI318 is what my civil counterpart lives by and his calculations are more complex than what I've seen out of Compress. He uses factored loads and a bunch of coefficients I've never heard of before on the mechanical side of things.
End result is that I'm having to upsize my anchor bolts far beyond the sizes arrived at with the assistance of Compress. I'm not finding fault with Compress. None of our vessels have sheared off their anchor bolts, no QA/QC guy has started pointed fingers, but I need to satisfy some new paperwork criteria. Integrating ACI318 as an optional anchor bolt check in Compress would be very helpful for me and maybe allow Compress access to some higher-spec environments.
