Generally speaking, you do not preheat aluminum or its alloys unless the surfaces are wet, damp, icy, or there is snow on the surface.
Carbon and high strength low allow, and high alloy steels may require preheat to retard the cooling rate to prevent the formation of undesirable microstructures (Martensite). That isn't the case for Austenitic stainless steels, aluminum alloys, copper, etc.
