Hello,

I am looking to fabricate a lift device for use in cold weather (down to -45C). Aluminum 6061-T6 appears to be acceptable from the information I have, -45 will only make aluminum stronger (do not need to worry about brittleness like with steel).

Anyone have any knowledge of Aluminum and cold weather (down to -45C) being an issue?

Thanks in advance!

Well before Invar became a thing, they used to make LNG (-168C) tanks and pipes from Aluminium so -45 shouldn't be a big issue, but I guess there are different grades of /Aluminium.

Plenty of info about like this

Aluminum is used for exchangers in cryogenic exchangers for nat gas separation. I don't know temperatures ,but much lower than - 45C.
