I am looking to find a suitable alternative to 6061-T6 Aluminum. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks.

You need to be more specific. Do you mean a different aluminum or a totally diferent metal?

Sorry. I meant a different aluminum.

I can also take the JIS equivalent of the 6061-T6 if that's easier.

OK. What product form are we talking about--bar, plate, sheet, structural shapes?

I guess it would be a structural shape. I am looking to machine a vacuum chamber for some tools, only we cannot get the 6061-T6 in Japan. I was told there was an equivalent, or I should look for something comparable. I tried doing a search, but did not come up with anything.

The following extruded alloys will all meet or exceed the UTS and TYS of 6061-T6: 2219-T62; 2014-T6; 2024-T42, T3, T81; 6066-T6; 7075-T73.

Thanks for all of your help. I really appreciate it.

We use 6063-T52 for stair stringers and 6063-T4 for 1-1/2" round handrails.

I doubt the alloys listed by swall and Bagman will be any easier for you to find in Japan.

Kobelco in Japan makes alloys similar to 6061. Their codes are KS651 and KD610.

Cory
