I have an existing building in a moderate seismic area. The owner is making some minor alterations to install new equipment. I am referring to the IEBC and my interpretation is that if the seismic demand is not increased more than 10% in any lateral member, no seismic retrofit is required. (10% increase beyond the original design) In my experience, that is generally how alterations are handled. Is there a consensus on that interpretation?
When would the procedure of ASCE 41 be triggered? When would a full scale push-over analysis need to be performed?
