I need help determining how much should be allowable seal leakage.

Seal oil to ambient
Oil Mil-PRF-23699 (5mm**2/s synthetic ester base stock) Kinematic Viscosity , @ 40 deg C cSt=25.26
Pressure 1800 psi
Seal Viton A, OD 5.395", ID 5.14"
Speed 1285 RPM
Balanced condition
Contact stress on seal 14.27 psi
Surface finish on sealing surface 16 micro inches

I've only seen this information direct from the seal supplier or pump vendor. Too many variables for anyone to really give a response to this.

My motto: Learn something new every day

Also: There's usually a good reason why everyone does it that way

Even then the vendor will be reluctant, it should be given as approximate, not allowable. Nobody wants to handle a warranty claim for "excessive" seal leakage that turns out to be just slightly more than estimated.
