hi guys. anyone ever use AISC Table 8-1, with the coefficients C? just curiuos how to use it. if someone could spit out a quick example, that'd be tubular.
sbisteel - that example is for eccentric loads on weld groups.
The OP is referring to Table 8-1 which is for concentric loads on weld groups - completely different issue.
We have not used that table - it appears to have shown up for the first time in the 13th Edition Manual with a description of its purpose -
seems weird that they mention that the cross welds (at 90 degrees) fail first before the longitidinal welds develop their full strength - then go on to suggest you can ignore the angle on welds.
Then in the 14th edition it appears to describe Table 8-1 as you "must consider the effect of loading angle and deformation compatibility on weld strength".
The example they give on pate 8-27 (14th Edition) makes sense in terms of the table 8-1 itself - I need to go through a few weld assemblies first to see how this table affects group strength.
