Hello,

I am trying to delve deep into the AISC SCM Chapter 7 Eccentricity Normal to the Plane of the Faying Suface Case I. Does anyone have any examples of hand calcs for this method. I understand the approximate NA generation, and the determination of the moment of inertia of the grouping. But when I try to show the tensile force in each bolt is equal to the force in the compression block, I can't seem to get the forces to balance.

Additionally, is there a reason why the Mc/I equation (7-12a,b) is specified at the force at the bolt most remote in the grouping? I would assume you'd be able to take find your stress & corresponding force for all bolts in the group, as well as the compression block.

Thanks for the help.

I hope these slides can help you. They have become 2 editions out-of-date since I made them in 2017. I am very busy ATM, so I hope the flowcharts help.
