Who uses AIA contract documents for their engineering contracts? Do you modify them?

If you don't use AIA, how did you come up with your standard terms and conditions? Did your legal counsel and/or insurance agent help at all?

Thanks!

Many small firms without in-house counsel start with EJCDC documents as they're geared toward engineers, not architects.

We are often required to use AIA docs because attorneys working for our clients are more familiar with them than the EJCDC docs. We prefer EJCDC but have developed our own supplementary conditions to the AIA general conditions. Much of the supplementary conditions go to moderating the language of the general conditions to compare more with the EJCDC docs.
