i'm a recent EE graduate and i've been trying to get my foot in with several manufactoring companies but with limited experience i'm not having much success. everybody wants an engineer with 5 years or more experience. any suggestions?

Try making contact with the local Service Clubs (Kiwanis, Rotary, etc.) Business owners are often interested in talented young men.

Widen your scope of where you want to look for work. Most manufacturers have limited staffing resources and cannot afford either the additional supervision it takes for new grads, or are unwilling to take on additional product reliability risks associated with a lack of experience. Consulting engineering firms on the other hand are almost always looking for new talent at the lower end of their pay scale so that the PEs and other more experienced engineers can be best used as a revenue stream. What that means is that you will be doing grunt work (from an engineering standpoint) for at least 5 years, but after that you are a more valuable commodity.

Try the government. I landed a job with the Navy a few year ago when almost NOBODY else was hiring. Turned out to be a great move because I really like working here and always have very interesting projects.
