Hi,
I am doing structural analysis for linear case.
I have compared my FEM results with few analytical bounds and the results are comparable to the Analytical models. So my question is Can somebody explain in detail the advantages of FEM-simulationss over Analytical models?
Thanks
Vinston

In my opinion, not all real structures can be approximated by analytical modells. So FEM has the advantage to approximate, I would say, all possible structures. But the success depends modelling method applied.

Second, the parameters of analytical models must often be identified and ajusted. This hapens after messurements of the real structure are made. FEM helps to get an very goo idea of how real structure will behave, before construction.

I think FEM is simply more general then analytical modells.

Regards,
Alex
