Where I work, we are setting up a series of studies concerning the adsorption & desorption (out gassing) of a certain component in several types of materials, & I have been tasked to formulate models of the process. I have noted that in my research so far that the models in the literature (Langmuir, etc.) do not seem to consider diffusion as part of process. Can someone explain to me why it's left out of the discussion?

Adsorption models such as Langmuir is one of equilibrium model for adsorption. euqilibrium is nothing to dow with kinetic. diffusion is about kinetics, not equilibrium. You need to think diffusion toward adsorption site on solid surface first and then euqilibrium between ,such as, gas and solid.
