Due to the lack of good architects
, I often find myself forced to design four or even five transfer girders in relatively small structures ( Typically not higher than 4 floors ). A typical example of my case is shown in the attached file. For minimum reinforcement, ACI gives the freedom to specify minimum reinforcement in one direction or two directions "orthogonal grid" as long as we satisfy the mentioned equation. However, AASHTO advises the designer to use an orthogonal grid only. So should I stick to the ACI method and only specify in one direction " Stirrups " as it is easier in construction or should I go with AASHTO and specify orthogonal grid?
