Hi,
Can someone confirm what's the acceptance specs of solder void (SMT reflow oven) for consumer electronics.

Many thanks.

Best regards,
ct

There are no real acceptance levels for consumer electronics. the soldering standards are there to be a reference when jobs are submitted between a supplier and his customer. You decide what is acceptable or not, balancing between the cost of the reworks or of the rejects, versus the long term life of the product and the financial health of your company.

Voids can be acceptable when you understand why they are present. But as per manufacturing standards, the inspector can reject a whole lot of parts and ruin your sales because that's what it says in the spec and that he does his job. I have seen numerous battles between QC departments and production managers because of that.
